Beginning already in August 1992 Germany participated with its Transall Transport Airplanes in the supply of the starving population of Somalia. The airplanes were stationed in Mombasa, Kenia from where they started to drop their supply goods from overhead.

The german Luftwaffe then operated an air transport supply point in Djibuti from where three Transall airplanes operated form March 1993 unditl March 1994 for the fly-in and continueing supply of the 1700 personel  of the german UNOSOM II (United Nations Operations in Somalia II) mission.

This print represents Luftwaffe operations in Africa and stands symbolic for all three transport wings which participated in the mission.
